Installation

Download

Download the latest release from GitHub Releases.

1. Download Boo-x.x.x.zip
2. Unzip the archive
3. Move Boo.app to Applications
4. Launch Boo

Boo checks for updates on launch. See Updates.

Build from Source

Prerequisites: macOS 15+, Xcode CLT, Zig 0.16.0 (brew install zig), Rust (rustup), Metal Toolchain, Node.js + pnpm (Monaco editor bundle)

git clone --recursive https://github.com/ph1p/boo.git
cd boo
make setup    # Builds GhosttyKit + ironmark + Monaco bundle + Boo
make run      # Build and launch

make run creates a local debug app bundle with Sparkle disabled. That keeps development builds from checking the production update feed while preserving the full Sparkle setup in release bundles.

If you already cloned without --recursive:

git submodule update --init --depth 1

Release Build

make release      # Optimized build
make app          # Create .app bundle
make zip          # Create distributable ZIP
make dmg          # Create distributable DMG

make app, make zip, make dmg, and make dist keep the Sparkle feed configuration from Boo/App/Info.plist, so those bundles behave like real release candidates.

Tests

make test

System Requirements

Uninstall

1. Quit Boo
2. Delete Boo.app from Applications
3. Optionally remove configuration: rm -rf ~/.boo
